About once a week I get an email inquiring about alternatives to a lumpectomy or mastectomy that an oncologist is recommending. Understandably, as surgery, especially a mastectomy, is a daunting decision to have to make.
From the outset I will say now, there are no alternatives to getting surgery. There is not a magic tumor shrinker that will dissolve your cancer. There is not some hidden cure that you have to research to find on-line, and if you do find something, send it my way please (but usually this would be a red flag to run the other way from a dubious site offering you something that just does not exist. I wish it did exist!) The purpose of this writing that you are reading now is to say that if you are being offered surgery to rid your body of this initial tumor burden, then you should proceed with that plan and engage the services of us here at Strong Woman Wellness. We will help you through every aspect from biopsy to surgery so that the discomfort and burden of this will be something well within your grasp of dealing with. We work on your emotional states as well as the obvious physical things. Very soon after we will move on to natural medicines to help on a much greater level after the initial tumor burden is removed.
I am writing this as I have personally lost a very close friend who refused a mastectomy and was convinced that she could cure her cancer with natural means in order to save her breast, despite my ineffective convincing. for what I know otherwise. A tumor is a densely packed collection of cells that have gone rogue and will not die (apoptosis) despite the body wanting to them to die. They have their own very complex biology with chemical mediators and cell surface receptors which ensure tumor survival and hence why no natural supplement or herb can outsmart or penetrate an existing breast cancer well enough to kill the tumor. This is unfortunate and something that I must explain all too often to those who truly want to embrace a natural path for their journey. Natural remedies against cancer can augment your journey, but first, please, get the tumor removed if you are being told to do so by your oncologist. Finding trust in this advice can save your life.
Do know there are things that you can start right away pre-surgery that may help. There is a premise out there that cutting into a tumor can release aberrant cancer cells into the bloodstream. Even though this is controversial and many doctors disagree on this being reality or not, I do make sure that all of my clients are protected in the best way possible around their surgery to help decrease any risk of metastasis. Additionally your surgeon will try their hardest to no cut directly into the tumor itself and get clean margins.
Once the surgery has occurred then we want to enhance the healing potential of the body and make sure pain is well managed. I have almost a 100% success rate with my clients not needing pharmaceutical pain killers after their lumpectomies and mastectomies. Usually my clients tell me that they do not like excessive meds or that they do not want to take pain meds if they can avoid them. (and you can avoid pain meds post surgery and be completely comfortable!). Homeopathy and cancer fighting herbs after surgery work extremely well to limit inflammation after surgery and optimize healing so that you can move on to your next phase of treatment comfortably and with confidence.
